Support Ukrainian Horticulture by Improving Bussiness

Poland will strengthen checks on Ukrainian carriers. Representatives of customs, border services, and the police will join the traffic police in the inspections.

This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure of Poland, Alvin Gadjadur, following a meeting with protesters at the border, reported TVP.

“We want to fight against unfair competition from foreign companies that are taking away the market from honest Polish carriers… As a result of this meeting, control on roads leading to the border crossings, which are being blocked, will be strengthened,” he said.

At the same time, the minister appealed to the European Commission to appoint a committee to verify the implementation of the agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which abolished the requirement for permits. He also appealed to the Ukrainian government to deactivate the electronic queue system at least at two checkpoints, according to the statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland.

Meanwhile, the representative of the carriers, Waldemar Yaschur, emphasized that the protests at the border will not be stopped for now, but they will refrain from blocking two more checkpoints, which were already being prepared for blockage.

“We are also ready to consider the possibility of softening the form of our protest if the Polish state strengthens effective control of trucks entering Poland. The number of violations among Ukrainian drivers is significant, and the involvement of state services, in our opinion, is still insufficient. This concerns inspections conducted by such services as the Road Transport Inspection, the National Tax Administration, the border service, and the police,” said Yaschur.

In addition, the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated that Warsaw will initiate the restoration of permits for freight transportation to Ukraine at the EU level, according to NV.

“It is very important for the Minister of Infrastructure to receive the necessary instructions at the Council of EU Ministers for Transport in order to return to the previous permit system. The permit system has worked well. We will propose the restoration of this permit system,” he said.

The head of the Polish government noted that the Polish delegation in Kyiv has agreed on changes that are likely to expedite the passage of empty trucks through the border, thus reducing queues.
