First field day of “Stiyka Ukraina” horticultural project took place in Kyiv Region on July 28, 2023
During the first demo field this year the varieties and growing technologies of strawberries, carrots, beetroots, lettuce, pumpkins, cucumbers as well as greens have been presented.
The event gathered Ukrainian companies as well as representatives of the Dutch suppliers in Ukraine. The topics for the next field days, webinars and events have been discussed.
The Field Day took palce the framework of the project “Stiyka Ukraina” supported by RVO and the Dutch Embassy in Ukraine.
The first vocational fieldday was a try-out and organized on July 28th 2023. In total 10 companies were invited and 30 people were present. Growers, Members of “Stiyka Ukraina” and the Horticultural Institute of Kyiv. All crops on the demoplot were discussed and specialists told about the crops and how they are grown. Koppert explained how they control pests with natural predators and the importance of pollination in fruits and berries.
Afterwards the participants filled in a questionnaire about what they liked and what their interests are to highlight next time and next year. Everybody was very enthusiastic and indicated that they heard a lot of information and news regarding the crops from the specialists but also from each other.
Also the beginners experience of the Rosetta team of growing vegetables was very interesting for the growers. To grow a nice crop depends on multiple factors which make the yield a success or not and many mistakes are made in the beginning. It is better to learn from others to avoid making mistakes.
The result was that berry growers considered starting a trial or vegetables production because good profitability perspectives. On the other hand vegetable growers started to get interested in berry growing.
