Lviv region’s vegetable farmers gather the harvest from 40% of the sown area of vegetable crops

As of the end of August, farms of all categories have already harvested over 228 thousand tons of vegetable crops from an area of 17.3 thousand hectares, according to the Department of Agricultural and Industrial Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

It is noted that Lviv region accounts for approximately 11.5% of the total production of vegetable crops in Ukraine. Over 95% of vegetable production in the region is concentrated in the hands of household farms.

“The sown area of open-ground vegetable crops in the region this year, across all categories of farms, amounts to 43.5 thousand hectares, which is an increase of 1.0% compared to last year. In industrial production, 2 thousand hectares are allocated for vegetables, an increase of 17.6%. In comparison with the previous year, agricultural producers have expanded areas for onions by 20%, for various types of cabbage by 20.5%, for carrots by 23.3%, and for beets by 9.4%,” the statement reads.
