Carrots in Ukraine are already twice as cheap as last year

This week, the Ukrainian market is witnessing another drop in carrot prices, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. It is worth noting that in Ukraine, mass harvesting of carrots is currently in full swing. At the same time, a significant number of producers who have already filled their storage facilities with carrots are trying to sell this produce directly from the field. In addition, there is an active supply of lower-quality carrots that are not suitable for long-term storage, which is an additional factor contributing to the decrease in selling prices in this segment.

Today, Ukrainian farmers are trying to sell carrots for 4-8 UAH/kg ($0.11-0.22/kg), which is on average 26% cheaper than at the end of the previous working week. According to experts, the main reason for the decline in carrot prices in the Ukrainian market is the increased supply of this root crop against the backdrop of mass harvesting in local farms. Experts also note that the market is saturated with carrots not intended for storage, considering their lower quality characteristics, which also contributes to the decrease in selling prices in this segment.

Carrots in Ukraine are already on average 58% cheaper than in the same period last year. Market analysts attribute this situation primarily to the overall increase in the supply of this produce on the market. It is worth noting that many Ukrainian farmers expanded the areas under these root crops in the current season, which, under favorable weather conditions, allowed them to harvest a larger carrot crop than in the previous season.
