In Ukraine, a project called “Honey of the Minefields” has been developed in cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Saatchi & Saatchi Ukraine, and the agro-industrial company Kernel.
The project aims to address the issue of mined agricultural fields, covering 8 million hectares, with 6 million in occupied territories and 2 million in liberated areas. Drones are used to sow these fields with a special mixture of honey-bearing plants, which are then harvested by bees, bypassing the danger of mines.
The harvested honey will serve as a powerful means of communication to raise international awareness about the issue of mined lands. Ukrainian diplomats will bring honey from these fields to international meetings and visits, offering it to diplomats and public figures worldwide.
The project not only addresses safety concerns for farmers working on these lands but also emphasizes the importance of demining for Ukraine’s food security. The agro-industrial company Kernel is contributing to the project by providing access to parts of the land that are inaccessible to heavy agricultural machinery due to the ongoing demining efforts.
The project’s organizers have conducted consultations with agronomists and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as well as carried out preparatory work with drones and test sowings. A website for pre-ordering the honey has also been launched, with the project set to fully launch in spring 2024.
